 Indoor Air Quality Graph

Typical In-room Appliance - These are typical single room sytems that are the least effective. The are portable and can be moved from room to room but they do not clean your entire home, only the rooms they are in.

Standard 1" Media Filter - This is the standard filter that comes with every system as a minimumu option. The are several different sizes and materials these are made from and they need to be changed once per month. These will help keep your system safe from large debris but they are not very effective at cleaning the smaller particles in the air. One common test to see the effectiveness of these systems is to pour salt over one and watch how much is not captured by the filter.

Whole-House 5" Media Filter - These filtration systems are the second most common you will find in homes after the 1" filters. These must be replaced once per year at minimum and are good at capturing larger particles and some smaller particles and allergens. These systems are not very effective for particles smaller than the eye can see.

Whole House Electronic Air Cleaner - This system is simliar to a 5" Media System but the filters do not need to be replaced but rather washed with a hose each year. These systems use electricity to capture the smaller particles as well as the larger ones.

Ultra-Violet Light Air Cleaner - Ultra-Violet systems are different than a typical filter becasue they are an actual light bulb that goes into your system. Ultra-Violet is good for cleaning the air and killing viruses but can be costly to replace the bulbs. Ech bulb can last up 2-3 years depending on the usage of the system.

TRANE CleanEffects - TRANE's new system is the best option on the market today. It cleans 99.98% of all particles down to .1 microns in size. The actual filter consists of three parts and do not need to be replaced. The system notifies you when it is time to clean the filters which you can then wash with a hose, sink, or dishwasher.
