Why do I need a water treatment system in Cincinnati?
According to a recent U.S. Geological Survey, 85 percent of the United States’ geography has hard water. Hard water is water that contains certain naturally occurring minerals, particularly magnesium and calcium. Hard water causes many problems in a home, including deposits in sinks and bathtubs and gummed-up pipes in home plumbing systems and water-using appliances. Softening water will extend the life of these pipes and appliances and improve the efficiency of water heaters, as well as provide better lather, more efficient use of soaps and detergents and softer skin and shinier hair. Look at the chart below published by the Water Quality Association:

Most of the water in the Cincinnati area is between 12 and 25 grains per gallon, so you can see why hard water becomes such a problem for your home. The average family of four will have more than 15 pounds of rock in the water running throughout their home per month!
If I have a water softener do I need a drinking water system?
Water softeners improve the water we bathe in and clean with throughout the home. Softeners are not purifiers and will not reduce a wide range of potential contaminants. The water in our area also contains high levels of total dissolved solids (TDS) and chlorine creating bad tastes and odors. Many consumers want to purify their water for drinking, cooking and ice cubes with a reverse osmosis system.
Do water softeners put salt in the water?
A water softener exchanges calcium ions in the water for sodium or potassium ions. The amount of sodium or potassium in soft tap water is extremely low. Typically, the amount of sodium in an 8 ounce glass of soft water is equivalent to the amount of sodium in one slice of white bread. Soft water, by dietary standards, would be considered a "low sodium" beverage. Consumers that are concened about their sodium intake may use potassium as a regenerant. Installing a Kinetico Reverse Osmosis system is highly recommended for purifying drinking water.
